Alphavet Referrals

We support practices throughout the South Wales region

We support veterinary practices throughout the region, predominately in South Wales but will take cases from further afield if needed. Our aim is to provide high-quality care for pets in Wales. Your pet will be referred back to their own practice once a specialised treatment plan has been successfully completed.

The referring Veterinary Surgeon will need to complete the following form to arrange the referral of your pet. This is available to download and complete to accompany your pet's medical history. You can also call us to arrange referral.

Orthopaedic Surgery

Alphavet are able to access orthopaedic treatments provided by Russell Chandler BVSc CertSAO MSc(OrthoEng) MRCVS, who is one of the very few vets to hold post-graduate qualifications in this field (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics). In addition, in 2010 Russell became the first and only veterinary surgeon ever to gain the MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University. Orthopaedic surgery and limb trauma surgery are challenging areas of veterinary care, so a considerable number of cases are referred to us every week from other vets in the region.

The following conditions are frequently treated:

  • Cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) rupture
  • Fractured/broken bones
  • Joint dislocations
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Elbow dysplasia

Spinal Surgery

Spinal problems can be extremely worrying for owners as well as for the pet. At Alphavet, we are experienced in caring for these kinds of patients. A team including surgeons, nursing staff and physiotherapists treat each patient with an individual care plan. Our nursing team in particular are able to give the time and attention that is required to recover from spinal injury.

Ophthalmology

Notice: Currently on hold due to Covid-19

We are lucky to benefit from the referral services of John Mould BA BVSc DVOphthal IL TM MRCVS. John is an eye specialist from the Eye Veterinary Clinic in Leominster. He runs fortnightly eye clinics at Alphavet, Langstone.

If you are in a veterinary practice in Wales or the West of England, call us or email Langstone@alphavets.co.uk for more details regarding our referral service.
